A note on the magnetic clasp

This piece closes with a neodymium clasp — a rare-earth magnet, and a strong one. That strength is the design: it is what lets the piece close one-handed and convert between bracelet and necklace. The magnet is structural and cannot be removed or substituted. The American Heart Association advises keeping magnets at least six inches from the site where a cardiac device is implanted. If that applies to you or your recipient, please ask your cardiologist before wearing this piece.

Finding your size

Measure a bracelet you already own and like the fit of. If you don't have one, wrap a piece of string around your wrist, mark where it meets, and lay it flat against a ruler. A tape measure is hard to hold flat against a curve, and it is where most sizing mistakes start.

This piece is made as either a bracelet or a necklace, in set lengths. It does not adjust, so the length you choose is the length it stays.

Match a bracelet you already own and wear comfortably. If you don't have one, measure your wrist and add half an inch. Each length above is the finished bracelet, not your wrist measurement.

Necklace

Measure a necklace you already own and like the sit of, laid flat. 16 inches sits at the base of the neck; 18 inches sits just below the collarbone.

If your measurement falls between two lengths, take the larger one. There is no chain to let out.

Wear it two ways: as a bracelet in 6", 6.5" or 7", or as a necklace on a 1.5mm rolo chain in 16" or 18".

• About the metals
- 925 Sterling Silver: 92.5% silver, the standard real silver is held to. It develops a soft patina over years of wear. A polishing cloth takes it straight back.
- Oxidized Sterling Silver: the same 925 silver, darkened at the surface. A finish, not a plating, so there is no second metal underneath to wear through to.
- 14k Gold Fill: a bonded layer of real 14k gold over a brass core, joined under heat and pressure. Not plating. The US standard requires gold fill to be 5% gold by weight; plating is around 0.05%. That difference is why gold fill wears for years where plating wears through.
- 14k Solid Gold: gold the whole way through.
